What is Jin Shin Jyutsu?
History
Jin Shin Jyutsu is a non-invasive and gentle art that promotes an increase of consciousness, one of the pre-requisites for healing the mind and body. It is mentioned in buddhist scripts, in the Bible and in the Kojiki, the Japanese book of ancient things.
Passed on through word of mouth for centuries, it was re-discovered in Japan by Master Jiro Murai in the early 20th century. Diagnosed with fatal illness at the age of 26, he used the Jin Shin Jyutsu mudras and was healed. He carried on researching this powerful art, and devised a comprehensive system to help unblock the flow of energy in the human body. Murai had access to the Imperial library and was was an advisor to the royal family.
For many years, Jiro Murai taught a young Japanese-American woman named Mary Burmeister. She returned to the US, and later became the founder of the Jin Shin Jyutsu movement. Today, classes are available in most parts of the world, and more than twenty instructors keep the art alive after Mary's passing in 2008.
How it works
We are miraculous creations of energy at different levels of density, energizing spirit, mind and body. When this energy flows freely, we live happily, abundantly, and free from disease. If, however, we suffer from negative emotions such as fear, environmental hazards, unhealthy foods and lifestyle, our energy flow may become blocked. Stagnation may lead first to emotional and later to physical manifestations of dis-ease.
Jiro Murai has dicovered twenty-six "Safety Energy Locks" which function much like safety valves and may become "locked" in case of overload. He has also described the twelve organ function energy pathways, which much resemble those used in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
A practitioner learns to use his or her hands to help unblock "stuck" energy and to re-establish the flow. Depending on the nature, severity and duration of the imbalance, it will take a few sessions, or maybe months to achieve balance. In most cases, a client will experience subtle improvements immediately, such as pain relief, better sleep, more peace of mind, or improved energy.
A session
A typical session lasts one hour- thirty minutes for children, with an additional 15 or 20 minutes of teaching self help to the client.
First, the practitioner may listen to the client's pulse on both hands, and practice some body reading.
The practitioner applies hands over clothing, using very gentle touch. Many clients are so deeply relaxed they simply go to sleep. Depending on the case, an initial two or three sessions a week may be needed, followed by weekly sessions.
Jin Shin Jyutsu can be used for any emotional or physical project. It can support conventional medicine, lessen the effects of chemotherapy and other cancer treatment. Many people find it uplifting, energizing and rejuvenating, and some use it even for cosmetic purposes!
